How Locals Help Protect Sea Turtle Hatchlings
Every summer, the beaches of Cape Hatteras National Seashore become a quiet nursery for sea turtles. From May through September, species including green, leatherback, and Kemp’s ridley turtles come ashore at night to lay their eggs in the sand. About 60 days later, hatchlings begin the long trip toward the ocean, guided by the slope of the beach, moonlight on the water, and the pull of the waves.
During summer 2025, experts monitored close to 300 sea turtle nests at Cape Hatteras, and Outer Banks Forever hopes to see similar numbers in 2026. The nonprofit helps support park rangers through its Adopt A Sea Turtle Nest program, where donations of $100 or more symbolically support a nest. Donors receive an adoption certificate, nest information, and updates when the eggs hatch later in the season.
That support matters because sea turtles face a fragile start. Their nests can be threatened by storms, predators, pollution, and changes to nesting beaches, and only a tiny share of hatchlings survive to adulthood. For visitors, simple choices like keeping distance, following ranger guidance, and reporting turtle sightings can help give these little travelers a safer path to the sea.

Small Wellness Habits That Make Days Easier
Feeling better throughout the day does not require a perfect routine or a total lifestyle reset. Often, it starts with a few steady habits that make your day feel more supported, like drinking water in the morning, eating regular meals, getting sunlight, moving your body, and making room for small pauses.
Sleep is one of the strongest foundations. Most adults need seven to nine hours a night, and a consistent bedtime and wake-up time can help support mood, focus, appetite, and energy. A simple wind-down routine, like dimming the lights, reading, stretching, or writing down racing thoughts, can make bedtime feel less abrupt.
The best routine is one you can return to on busy days. Try a short walk, a fruit or vegetable with each meal, a few minutes of breathing, or stretching while coffee brews. These small choices build momentum, and over time, they can make your day feel calmer, steadier, and a little easier to move through.

What Happens When You Don’t Eat Enough Veggies?
Did you know that only 10-13% of adults in the U.S. get enough fruits and vegetables every day? It’s no surprise. Between busy schedules and picky eating habits, reaching your daily nutritional goals can almost feel impossible.
The result? Missing out on key nutrients that help you feel energized, maintain a strong immune system, and keep your digestion on track. The lack of proper nutrition can leave you feeling sluggish, run down, and more susceptible to illness. But what if there was an easier way to get the nutrients you need, without the hassle?

Nature Spotlight: Yosemite National Park
Yosemite National Park is one of those places that makes nature feel larger than life. Located in California’s Sierra Nevada mountains, the park is known for granite cliffs, giant sequoias, rushing waterfalls, clear night skies, and views that seem to stop everyone in their tracks. In spring, Yosemite feels especially alive as snowmelt feeds the waterfalls and the valley begins to fill with wildflowers.
For a classic first visit, Yosemite Valley is a great place to start. Visitors can see landmarks like El Capitan, Half Dome, Bridalveil Fall, and Yosemite Falls, which drops 2,425 feet and is especially powerful in April and May. Easy trails like Lower Yosemite Falls and Sentinel & Cook’s Meadow Loop offer big views without requiring an all-day hike.
Spring also brings plenty of slower ways to enjoy the park. You can bike along Yosemite Valley’s paved paths, look for reflections at seasonal Mirror Lake, photograph dogwood blossoms and poppies, or visit giant sequoias in groves like Mariposa, Tuolumne, or Merced. Some higher roads and river activities may be limited by snowmelt, but that is part of Yosemite’s spring rhythm: wild, beautiful, and worth meeting with a little patience.
