Build a Summer Capsule Wardrobe That Fits Your Life

If your closet feels a little overwhelming when summer rolls in, you’re not alone. A capsule wardrobe—just a few go-to pieces you really love—can make getting dressed simpler and even a little easier on the planet.

Think about versatile staples like a black or white dress, a comfy pair of shorts, and that one tank top you always reach for. These aren’t strict rules—just helpful ideas to build a wardrobe that actually works for your life, whether that means park days, travel plans, or working from home.

Choosing natural or recycled fabrics when possible is one small way to cut back on waste and pollution. Even just buying a little less (or rewearing what you already own) can help.

It doesn’t have to be perfect. If your favorite summer clothes weren’t made sustainably, that’s totally fine. The goal is a closet that feels good, lasts longer, and fits your life, while being a little gentler on the Earth.

Sunset of the Day at Lake Emerald

Golden light spills across the still waters of Lake Emerald in Oakland Park, Florida, in this peaceful sunset sent in by Hara.

There’s something grounding about the warm glow and gentle ripples here. You can almost feel the breeze and the quiet settling in after a long day. Thank you, Hara, for sharing this calming view with us!

Have a sunset (or sunrise!) that you’d love to share? We’d love to see it! Send yours in and help us fill The Canopy with more beauty from your corner of the world.

The Little Animal Making A Comeback in Australian Forests

In 2018, only five numbats were left in one Australian park. This year, conservationists spotted baby numbats—“numbubs”—darting through the forest, bringing the count to around 25 and signaling real hope for the endangered species.

Numbats are small marsupials with reddish fur, striped backs, and long, sticky tongues built for eating termites—up to 20,000 a day. Once widespread across Australia, their numbers fell sharply due to habitat loss and predators like foxes and feral cats.

Thanks to habitat protection, rewilding efforts, and some dedicated scientists, things are turning around. In December, Perth Zoo released 13 hand-raised numbats into protected wilderness, part of an ongoing effort that’s helped reintroduce over 300 numbats to the wild since the 1990s.

Tiny radio collars—like fitness trackers for marsupials—are helping researchers learn how young numbats explore and claim their own territory. One volunteer said young females usually stay close, while males wander farther to “find their own little patch of paradise.”

It’s a hopeful reminder that even the smallest animals can make a big comeback with enough care and teamwork.
