The Growing Movement for Sustainable Concerts
There’s something electric about a live concert. The lights, the music, the crowd singing in unison. But behind the scenes, concerts can generate massive waste and carbon emissions. In the U.S. alone, live events produce more than 116 million pounds of waste each year and emit around 400,000 tons of carbon. As more fans ask for change, artists are stepping up.
Nonprofit REVERB has been working since 2004 to help musicians like Billie Eilish, Dave Matthews Band, and Jack Johnson make their tours more sustainable. That can mean sending a sustainability coordinator on the road to reduce single-use plastics, improve recycling, and cut landfill waste. Through the Music Decarbonization Project, some stages have even been powered by solar-charged battery systems instead of diesel generators, including at major festivals.
The shift hasn’t happened overnight. Refillable water stations and recycling bins were once hard to secure at venues. Now they’re becoming more common. There’s still a long way to go, but it’s encouraging to see music (something that already brings people together) also becoming a space where climate action feels hopeful and doable. When artists, crews, and fans move in the same direction, even big, loud concerts can leave a lighter footprint.

A Sunday Reset That Actually Sticks
There’s something grounding about a Sunday reset. Folding laundry, tidying up, prepping meals for the week ahead. With a few small shifts, that same routine can also become a gentle way to lower waste and live a little lighter.
Start with laundry. Wash full loads in cold water when possible and skip extra rinse cycles unless you truly need them. Air-drying a few items each week saves energy, and switching to concentrated detergent or refill options can cut down on plastic. When you move into cleaning mode, try simple swaps like reusable cloths instead of paper towels or refillable cleaning sprays instead of single-use bottles. These changes are small, but over time they add up.
Meal prep is another easy win. Before grocery shopping, check what you already have and plan meals around those ingredients to reduce food waste. Chop vegetables for the week, store leftovers in clear containers so they don’t get forgotten, and keep a simple list on the fridge. While you’re at it, plan a few outfits for the week ahead. Knowing what you’ll wear can reduce last-minute shopping urges and help you appreciate what’s already in your closet.
A Sustainable Sunday Reset isn’t about doing everything perfectly. It’s about building habits that feel realistic and repeatable. One thoughtful choice each week can quietly shape a lower-waste life.

Sunset of the Day in Northern California
Winter light has a way of feeling extra meaningful, and Connie captured that beautifully at Reichert Ranch in Northern California. The sun dips low behind bare branches, casting a warm band of orange and rose across the horizon while the trees stand in quiet silhouette.
There’s something especially peaceful about the way the light filters through, soft but steady, closing out the day with calm.
Thank you to The Canopy reader Connie for sharing this serene backyard sunset. Have a sunset or snapshot you’d love to share? We’d love to see it. Send it our way for a chance to be featured in The Canopy.
