Thrift Shopping Tips for Finding Hidden Gems

Thrift shopping is a fun, sustainable way to refresh your wardrobe without spending a fortune. But if you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by racks of random clothing, you’re not alone. Knowing what to look for makes all the difference.

Start with a plan. Keep a list of what you actually need so you avoid impulse buys. Thrift stores don’t display outfits the way traditional retailers do, so having a sense of your own style helps you stay focused. Saving inspiration photos on your phone keeps you on track.

Quality is key. Look for natural fabrics like cotton, wool, and linen, which last longer and don’t shed microplastics the way synthetics do. Check seams, zippers, and buttons to make sure everything is in good shape. A tailor can adjust pieces that almost fit.

Thrifting isn’t only about saving money. It’s about reducing waste and making more intentional choices. With the right approach, you’ll walk away with unique, long-lasting pieces while giving clothes a second life.

Students on a Mission to Protect the Seas

For six months, students aboard the sailing vessel Thalassa aren’t just attending class. They’re learning how to live sustainably while traveling the world. The School at Sea program takes 15- to 17-year-olds on a journey where education, teamwork, and environmental responsibility go hand in hand.

With 37 students and 9 crew members on board, sustainability is a daily practice rather than a lesson. Laundry is done sparingly, fresh water is carefully managed, and clothes are air-dried on deck. The ship is fitted with microfibre filters to keep tiny plastic particles out of the ocean.

Beyond the routines, students take real action. They organize beach cleanups, track plastic pollution, and conduct research on microplastics in different waters. It connects them to the environment in ways a traditional classroom never could.

As they sail through the Caribbean and back, these students are proving that education can be an adventure, and that small actions add up.

A Snoring Solution That Doesn’t Affect Your Sleep Comfort or Relationship

For many of us, falling asleep is hard. More than any other time of day, comfort is crucial. CPAP machines and mandibular advancement devices (MADs) may help people get more rest once they’re asleep, but they’re so uncomfortable to deal with while awake. Even a supportive bed partner prefers something that doesn’t get in the way of cuddling and goodnight kisses. eXciteOSA® from Spring Sleep is a daytime therapy designed for adults with mild obstructive sleep apnea and snoring. A quick 20-minute daily session fits into your routine, with no device required during sleep.

Baby Pine Martens Are Back After 100 Years

You know that feeling when years of quiet, hard work finally pays off? Conservationists in England just got exactly that moment, and they have a trail camera to thank for catching it.

Pine martens, small tree-climbing cousins of the weasel, were hunted to extinction in southern England more than a century ago. So a few years back, the Two Moors Pine Marten Project released dozens of them back into Dartmoor National Park, a stretch of wild moorland in southwest England. They hoped the pine martens would settle in and, eventually, start families of their own.

This summer, that hope paid off. A trail camera in Exmoor, a neighboring national park, caught a mother pine marten playing with four kits in the woods, the first confirmed proof that these reintroduced martens are breeding in the wild. "To see four with their mum was an amazing sight," said Ali North, the project's field officer.

It's a genuinely rare kind of good news: proof that patient, community-driven conservation actually works.
