A New Holiday Celebrates Jane Goodall’s Impact
A new holiday is giving people around the world a chance to celebrate one of the most beloved voices in conservation. The Jane Goodall Institute has officially declared April 3 (Jane Goodall’s birthday) as Jane Goodall Day. The annual day will honor the legendary primatologist and conservationist, who spent more than nine decades inspiring people to care for wildlife, communities, and the planet.
Jane Goodall passed away in October 2025 at age 91, but her work continues to influence environmental action around the world. Through the Jane Goodall Institute and its youth program Roots & Shoots, generations of young people have been encouraged to protect nature and support their communities. The new holiday aims to keep that spirit alive by inviting people to take simple actions that help the planet.
On April 3, supporters are encouraged to do something positive for the natural world. That could mean planting a tree, picking up litter in a local park, supporting conservation programs, or helping youth-led environmental projects. The message reflects something Goodall often said throughout her life: that real change happens when individuals come together with purpose and hope.

Sunset of the Day in Oregon
The Canopy Reader Mike captured this peaceful sunset over Mt. Bachelor in Oregon. As the sun drops behind the mountain, the sky softens into warm gold and pale evening tones, with the silhouette of the peak anchoring the horizon.
It’s a simple, quiet moment that highlights the natural beauty of Central Oregon at the end of the day.
Thanks to Mike for sending in this beautiful Oregon sunset. Have a sunset or snapshot you’d love to share? We’d love to see it. Send it our way for a chance to be featured in The Canopy.

How One Wellness Brand Is Helping America Sleep Better
You know the importance of sleep, but actually getting enough is easier said than done. One wellness brand decided to study the problem and whether CBD could help.
CBD users have long reported feeling calmer and sleeping better, whether taking the compound by itself or with related hemp-derived compounds like CBN and THC. But rumor isn’t research, so CBDistillery conducted two sleep studies: a 2021 study into CBD and CBN, and a 2023 study with technology app Releaf into CBD, CBN and THC.
Study participants who took CBD and CBN reported falling asleep easier and sleeping an hour longer per night, on average. Study participants who took THC as well as CBD and CBN reported improved quality of sleep and waking up more refreshed the next morning.

Meal Planning Tips for a Calmer Week
Meal planning is one of those small habits that can make everyday life feel a little calmer. At its core, it simply means deciding ahead of time what meals you’ll cook during the week. Instead of standing in front of the fridge wondering what to make, you already have a loose plan. It can save time, reduce grocery bills, and help cut down on food waste (something that’s good for both your household and the planet).
If you’re new to meal planning, start small. Take a look at what’s already in your fridge, freezer, and pantry, then build a few meals around those ingredients. Plan three or four dinners for the week instead of trying to plan everything. Make a short grocery list based on those meals, and prep a few ingredients ahead of time (like washing vegetables or cooking a batch of rice or grains). It doesn’t have to be perfect. The goal is simply to make the week a little easier while using what you have more thoughtfully.
When we buy food without a plan, it’s easy for ingredients to get forgotten in the back of the fridge. Planning a few meals ahead of time helps ensure the food you buy actually gets used. That means fewer trips to the store, fewer impulse purchases, and less food ending up in the trash. Over time, this simple shift can make grocery spending more predictable while also reducing waste.
