Are You Investing in Climate Change?
You might be eating less meat, installing solar panels on your roof, and biking to work. But have you considered that your retirement savings could be invested in fossil fuels? Itās far from implausible - in fact, over 25% of all the money invested in oil, coal, and gas companies comes from 401(k) retirement savings.
Your retirement plan is for safeguarding your future - but thanks to these investments, all of our futures are at risk. So, how can you divest?
1. Speak to a Financial Adviser
You might never have spoken to them, but if you have a retirement account, the services of a financial adviser are included. Reach out and ask them to talk you through your options.
2. Choose a Green Company Plan
Often, the retirement plans offered by your workplace are very limited - but if youāre lucky, thereāll be a fossil-free fund you can easily switch to.
3. Open a New Account
With a new account comes the freedom to choose where to put your money, so you can find a plan that better aligns with your values. Create a brokerage account thatās tethered to your original one, sell the investments in your current 401(k), and use the cash to buy into a fossil fuel fund. Find the right one for you using the online tool Fossil Free Funds.
Sea Turtles Are Making a Comeback
Loggerhead sea turtles can live for up to 70 years but are classed as endangered due to a number of threats, including pollution, human activity, and the degradation of their nesting habitats. But thanks to conservationists, populations are thankfully resurging. This summer, volunteers on Anna Maria Island, Florida - a hotspot for sea turtles - marked a new all-time record for the number of turtles sighted.
Amazingly, the conservation efforts of 25 years ago are now paying off. Back then, volunteers stepped up to protect the nests of turtle hatchlings, and those same baby turtles have now started coming back as adults to create their own nests.
Science Links Mitochondria & Muscle Strength
As we age, our muscles naturally lose mass, strength, and functionality, which can lead to fatigue and weakness beginning as early as our 30s. Recent studies indicate that our mitochondriaāthe cellular powerhouses that generate 90% of our energyāplay a crucial role in this decline, contributing to reduced muscle function as we age.
A new way to support and improve muscle health as we age, MitopureĀ® by Timeline is clinically shown to meaningfully boost our mitochondrial health to improve muscle strength and endurance, without any change in exercise required.
Ready to feel stronger, for longer with Mitopure? The Canopy readers can take 30% off their first month with code NEWSLETTER30 for a limited time. While supplies last.
