Soak Up Nature While Leaving Nothing Behind

Camping is one of the best ways to enjoy the natural world while getting some distance from the hustle and bustle of modern life. But, while you sleep under the stars, it’s important to be respectful and responsible.

Otherwise, camping risks disturbing wildlife, polluting waterways, and generally harming the surrounding environment. Leaving no trace is easy if you follow these steps:

1. Think Ahead

Planning your trip, trail, and camping spot ahead of time will help you understand the area’s unique nature profile, and come prepared with the right gear for a sustainable camping trip.

2. Stay on the Trail

If you go astray, you risk eroding the soil and disturbing the ecosystem. Plus, keeping to predetermined routes will stop you from getting lost!

3. Dispose of Waste Properly

Don’t leave your litter lying around. Doing so will pollute the earth, harm local creatures, and ruin the area’s pristine beauty.

4. Leave Nature Untouched

They may be beautiful, but you should always refrain from picking flowers. Similarly, don’t snap branches, peel off tree bark, or generally cause any harm - you wouldn’t like it either!

5. Don’t Play With Fire

If you’re building a campfire, be sure to only use established fire pits and dead wood, and fully extinguish your fire once you’re done. In a worst-case scenario, failing to do so could start a wildfire, and we definitely don’t need more of those.

6. Stay Away From Animals

If you see deer, bears, or wolves while on your camping trip, stay away and don’t interfere with them. This is both for their benefit, and yours!

Are Global Emissions Finally Plateauing?

For years, climate scientists have been telling us that global emissions need to peak before 2025. And it’s possible that they’re finally starting to do so. This is a turning point that brings us one step closer to a greener and brighter future.

So, what’s driving this much-needed transformation? It can largely be explained by the fact that solar panels are rapidly replacing fossil-fuel-based energy sources. Last year, almost a third of the world’s electricity came from renewables, thanks to the costs of solar becoming much cheaper very quickly. This is great news - but the era of fossil fuels ending is just the first step.

The next step is to lower our emissions and preserve the natural world for future generations.

Making Your Own Oat Milk

Cow's milk produces around three times the emissions of dairy milk, so swapping it out can help cut your carbon footprint. You don’t even need to buy store-bought oat milk - with this recipe, you can make your own, further saving on emissions. Here’s how:

Ingredients -

  • ½ cup of whole rolled oats

  • 3 cups of water

  • 2 teaspoons of maple syrup

  • ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract

  • ⅛ teaspoon of sea salt

Method -

  • Place all of the ingredients in a blender and blend for 30 seconds.

  • With a fine mesh strainer, strain the mixture over a large bowl, without pushing any of the pulp through.

  • If you prefer a sweeter milk, add more maple syrup. Chill the milk overnight and wake up to a homemade treat with your breakfast.
