Are environmentally-focussed startups more likely to survive the early stages than those who aren't climate friendly?

How to Be an Eco-Conscious Pet Parent

While our pets are treasured members of our households, we need to be mindful about their impact on the planet. But by making some small and simple changes to how we care for our pets, we can massively cut their carbon pawprints and keep our whole family sustainable. Here’s how:

1. Walk Your Dog in the Neighborhood

Ask whether you really need to drive your pup to a dog park, or if you can stay local and save on emissions.

2. Try Plant-Based Pet Food

Thanks to the huge environmental impact of meat, feeding our hungry pets creates about 64 million tons of carbon dioxide a year. Try switching to vegan dog food, or if you’re keen to keep them on a meat diet, opt for lower impact meats like chicken.

3. Choose Sustainable Toys - Or Make Your Own

Pets love to play, so look for toys that are made with sustainable materials, and avoid plastic. For small pets like guinea pigs and rabbits, why not try making homemade toys by stuffing some old toilet roll tubes with hay?

4. Be Better With Their Poop

Always use biodegradable dog poop bags rather than disposable ones. If you live in an area with a lot of outdoor space - and are feeling up to it! - you could also bury their poop in a hole around 15cm deep.

Pedal Power: The Unstoppable Rise of E-Bikes

E-bike sales have exploded in the US, as people up and down the country take to the streets with this emission-free mode of transport. Experts are seeing this year as a turning point for e-bikes, with their sales now outnumbering that of electric cars and more than 100 city and state incentive programs in place to encourage people to get in the saddle. It’s hoped that these bikes will become the default option for journeys under 3 miles, usually taken by car, which currently account for half of all trips taken.

As well as being planet-friendly and safer than cars, e-bikes are incredibly accessible. They can be used by people with varying levels of physical ability, so you don’t need to be a Tour de France contestant to speed uphill. Plus, you won’t have to worry about arriving at your destination sweaty and red in the face!

The Benefits of Castor Oil

Castor oil is having a moment. Although its use dates back to ancient Egypt — Cleopatra reportedly used it in her beauty routine — there are currently more than 100 million Tik Tok videos extolling its virtues for everything from menstrual-cramp relief to weight loss to thicker eyelashes.

Castor oil is a staple of traditional Ayurvedic treatments as well as an FDA-approved remedy for constipation. Its potent emollient properties also make it a bedrock ingredient of many skincare products and cosmetics — try to find a tube of lipstick without it. Read about some key ways this all-purpose remedy can improve your health and wellness, here.
