Kicking Forever Chemicals Out of Our Drinking Water
The U.S. has banned PFAS in tap water for the first time ever. These harmful chemicals can currently be found in 6-10% of drinking water systems across the U.S., and canât be avoided with Brita filters and similar products.
PFAS have been linked to health issues including cancer, asthma, and reproductive issues. Theyâre often nicknamed âforever chemicalsâ because they hang around for up to thousands of years in the environment without degrading.
The new law combats this pollution and is a huge win for the countryâs health. It will limit the exposure of 100 million people to these chemicals, preventing tens of thousands of illnesses.
