The Rise of Rooftop Gardens in Lisbon
Across Lisbon, rooftops are transforming from empty spaces into vibrant green havens. From apartment terraces filled with herbs to large-scale rooftop farms, the cityâs âupward gardensâ are helping cool buildings, support pollinators, and give residents a closer connection to nature without needing a backyard.
At Lisbonâs Hub Criativo do Beato, the rooftop of the Factory Lisbon building is now home to an organic garden where local restaurants and breweries grow herbs and hops. The idea is simple: produce food close to where itâs used to cut down on transport emissions and make city spaces greener and more social.
The cityâs Programa Hortas follows a similar approach, giving residents community plots to grow their own vegetables and connect with neighbors. Together, these projects show how even a few plants (on a rooftop, balcony, or shared garden) can help create a cooler, more sustainable Lisbon.

Sunset of the Day in San Pablo Bay
Todayâs sunset of the day comes from The Canopy reader, Theresa. Theresa shared this peaceful view over San Pablo Bay, where the light fades slow and steady. Golden hues stretch along the horizon while bands of soft cloud hover just above the water. Itâs the kind of quiet, wide-open sky that feels like a deep breath.
Thanks to Theresa for sending this in. If youâve captured a sunset that made you stop and breathe a little deeper, weâd love to see it too!

How to Pack Lighter With the 54321 Method
If youâve ever overpacked for a trip and worn the same three outfits anyway, the 54321 packing method might be your new favorite rule. Itâs a simple formula for building a travel capsule wardrobe: five tops, four bottoms, three pairs of shoes, two layers or dresses, and one of each accessory.
The goal isnât perfection. Itâs packing intentionally. With a few mix-and-match pieces in similar colors, you can easily create dozens of outfits that fit in a carry-on. Start by choosing your shoes (they take up the most space), then plan your tops and bottoms around them. Keep fabrics light, versatile, and layerable.
Whether youâre heading out for a long weekend or a two-month adventure, the 54321 method helps you focus on what youâll actually wear. Less time packing means more time enjoying the trip, and maybe even a little extra room for souvenirs.
