Meet the Tiny Otter That Just Made History
For the first time in nearly two centuries, a tiny otter species has been spotted in Nepal! The Asian small-clawed otter, the smallest otter in the world, hadnāt been officially seen in the country since 1839āuntil now.
Last November, forest officials in western Nepal rescued a young otter near a river. The little otter was fragile and in need of care, but no one was sure what species it was. After sharing photos with experts, they got an exciting answer: it was the long-lost small-clawed otter, a species many thought was gone from Nepal.
This otter is vulnerable to extinction, mostly due to habitat destruction and pollution. Nepal has already been working to protect its otters, and now this little one will be included in conservation efforts. Researchers hope this sighting means there are more out there, waiting to be found.
This discovery is a huge win for Nepalās wildlife, proving that even the smallest creatures can make a big comeback when we pay attention to their habitats.

Sunset of the Day With Friends
Today's sunset comes from The Canopy reader Pam, who captured this heartwarming moment of friendship on Bonita Beach. There's something special about sharing a sunset with people you loveāwatching the sky fade into gold while standing side by side.
The long shadows, the sound of the waves, and the warmth of the sun make this scene feel both peaceful and full of joy. Thank you, Pam, for sharing this beautiful reminder that sunsets are even better when experienced together.

March 30th Is All About Reducing Waste
Every March 30, the world comes together for International Day of Zero Waste, a movement to reduce waste and rethink how we consume. This UN-backed initiative encourages people, businesses, and governments to cut down on unnecessary waste through reuse, recycling, and mindful consumption.
Why does this matter? Landfills are filling up fast, and waste pollution harms both the environment and human health. Some landfills even release enough methane to power thousands of homesābut methane is a powerful greenhouse gas that speeds up climate change. Small changes, like composting food scraps or swapping plastic bags for reusable ones, help reduce waste and pollution.
Getting involved is easy! You can join a local cleanup, find ways to use less packaging, or support brands that focus on sustainability. Even using one less paper towel a day could save 571 million pounds of paper waste each year in the U.S. alone.
Zero Waste Day is a reminder that small actions add up. By making thoughtful choices, we can keep our planet cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable for future generations.
