Big Bear Eagles Welcome Two Adorable Hatchlings

The wait is over—Big Bear’s famous bald eagles, Jackie and Shadow, have officially become parents! Two eaglets hatched this week, thrilling thousands of viewers watching the nest’s live webcam. After two years without a successful hatch, this moment is especially exciting for eagle lovers.

The first chick broke free from its shell late Monday night, with glimpses of tiny feathers appearing on camera. By early Tuesday morning, a second eaglet had arrived, making this a double celebration. The parents have been taking turns keeping the hatchlings warm in their nest, 145 feet up in a Jeffrey pine tree overlooking Big Bear Lake.

This news is a big win for Jackie and Shadow, who faced tough winters and unsuccessful eggs in past years. Last year’s extreme cold made hatching impossible, and in 2023, ravens took their eggs. With better weather this season, hopes are high that these chicks will grow strong.

For now, eagle fans can continue watching these little ones thrive on the Friends of Big Bear Valley’s live nest cam.
