Meet the Oregon Zoo’s Newest Furry Residents

Two tiny cougar cubs, just four months old, have found a new home at the Oregon Zoo after being rescued in Washington. Wildlife officials discovered them wandering alone—too young to survive without their mother. With no sign of her nearby, the decision was made to step in and give them a second chance.

Now, they’re settling into their new home, getting all the care (and cozy naps) they need. Zoo staff say the siblings are still a little shy, but they’re slowly adjusting to their surroundings. Soon, they’ll move into the zoo’s larger cougar habitat, where they’ll have plenty of space to climb, play, and grow.

The Oregon Zoo has helped other orphaned cougars before, including Paiute, who lived there for 15 years. Like him, these cubs will help teach visitors about the challenges wild cougars face, from habitat loss to road dangers.

For now, they’re just two little cats figuring out their new world—safe, cared for, and already stealing hearts.

Sunset of the Day

Today's Sunset of the Day comes from The Canopy reader Beth, who captured this breathtaking winter sunset.

The golden light reflecting off the winding road creates a mesmerizing glow, contrasting beautifully with the snow-covered landscape. The peaceful scene is a reminder that even the coldest days can end in warmth and beauty.

Thank you, Beth, for sharing this stunning view! Have a sunset that stopped you in your tracks? Send it our way—we’d love to feature it!

The Simple Spring Checklist for Happy Houseplants

As the days grow longer, your houseplants are waking up from their winter rest. Spring is the perfect time to refresh their care routine and set them up for a season of strong growth. A little extra attention now can make all the difference.

Start by cleaning off dust that has built up on leaves—this helps them absorb more sunlight and keeps pests away. If you spot any yellow or dead leaves, trim them off so the plant can focus its energy on healthy new growth. If your plants have outgrown their pots, now is the time to repot them into something slightly larger with fresh soil.

Since sunlight shifts with the seasons, check if your plants are getting the right amount of light. Some may need a new spot for optimal growth. And don’t forget to start feeding them again—a diluted liquid fertilizer can help replenish nutrients after the winter months.

With just a few simple steps, your plants will be ready to thrive all season long. Happy growing!
