A Safe Haven Brings More Baby Seals Than Ever
Something special is happening on the shores of Orford Ness. A once-empty stretch of coastline is now home to hundreds of gray seals and their newborn pups—all because they finally found a peaceful place to raise their young. What started as a small group just a few years ago has now grown into a thriving seal colony, with 80 pups already born this season.
Gray seals are incredibly sensitive to human activity, and too much noise or disruption can cause mothers to abandon their pups. But in this quiet, protected spot, they’re able to care for their babies without fear. Unlike other seals, gray seal pups need weeks of nursing before they can swim, making this peaceful refuge critical for their survival.
Rangers are keeping a careful but distant eye on the colony, ensuring they remain undisturbed while documenting their remarkable growth. For now, the seals are flourishing in their hidden sanctuary, proving that sometimes, all wildlife needs is a little space to thrive.

Junk Mail Wastes Millions of Trees
Junk mail isn’t just an annoyance—it’s a major environmental issue. In the U.S., over 4 million tons of junk mail are produced annually, contributing to deforestation and waste. The good news? You can take simple steps to reduce it.
Opt-Out of Credit Card Offers: Credit bureaus sell mailing lists, but you can remove your name by registering at OptOutPrescreen.com. This stops prescreened credit card and insurance offers.
Go Paperless: Switch to email billing for utilities, banking, and subscriptions. Most companies offer this option online.
Remove Your Name from Marketing Lists: Register at DMAchoice.org to stop mail from major advertisers. A small fee applies, but it cuts down on a huge amount of junk mail.
Unsubscribe from Catalogs: Use CatalogChoice.org to stop receiving unwanted catalogs.
Return to Sender: Mark unwanted mail “Return to Sender” and drop it back in the mailbox.
Reducing junk mail is an easy way to cut clutter, protect forests, and lower your carbon footprint. Ready to take action? Start with one step today!
