Chicago’s Energy Makeover
Chicago just took a huge step toward a cleaner future—every single municipal building, from schools to fire stations to airports, is now powered entirely by renewable energy. Instead of relying on fossil fuels, the city is using solar energy from one of the largest solar farms in the Midwest, proving that big cities can make bold changes for the planet.
This switch will cut as much pollution as removing 62,000 cars from the road every year. The Double Black Diamond Solar farm, located in central Illinois, is supplying most of the power, helping Chicago shrink its carbon footprint while also creating jobs. And it’s not just about energy—this project is expected to bring $100 million in local tax revenue, funding things like schools, roads, and community programs.
But what makes this move even more exciting? It’s helping people, too. The city is investing in clean energy job training, making sure more people—including women and underrepresented workers—get opportunities in the growing renewable energy industry.
Chicago’s goal doesn’t stop here. By 2035, they want all buildings, not just municipal ones, running on clean energy. If they pull it off, they’ll be the largest U.S. city to do so—proving that a greener, healthier future is possible when cities step up.

Why Decluttering Feels So Good This Spring
As spring arrives, many of us feel the urge to clean—but this year, decluttering might be just as big of a priority. Over time, many of us accumulate more than we need, filling our homes with workout gear, craft supplies, or impulse buys. Now, those once-useful items may be collecting dust.
Decluttering doesn’t just free up space—it saves time, reduces stress, and helps the planet. Unused items require energy to maintain, clean, and store. Plus, donating or repurposing them ensures they go to someone who needs them instead of a landfill. Many local charities, shelters, and thrift stores welcome gently used household items, clothing, and furniture.
A great way to start is by asking yourself: Do I use this regularly? Would I buy it again today? If not, it may be time to pass it on. If you’re struggling to let go, remember that someone out there needs that item today, not months or years down the line.
By embracing decluttering as a habit, not just a seasonal chore, we can create homes that feel lighter, more spacious, and more intentional—while also making more mindful choices moving forward.
