The First Dog Treats Made Without Farms
If your dog loves treats (and letâs be honestâmost do), you might be interested in a new option thatâs just hit the shelves. It looks like chicken, smells like chicken, and yep, it is chickenâjust made without the farm.
Instead of raising animals, scientists grow real animal cells in a safe, controlled environment. That tiny sample of cells turns into food using way less land, water, and energy. It's the same kind of protein, just made in a different (and much cleaner) way.
For pet parents who care about the planet, this could be big. Traditional pet food makes up a surprising share of the environmental impact from the meat industry. These new treats could help lower your pupâs pawprint without changing whatâs in their bowl.
Theyâre still a bit pricey for now, but that may shift as more companies get involved. And while this might not be on every shelf yet, itâs a fascinating glimpse at what the future of sustainable pet care could look like.

Fireflies Put On A Rare Display This Spring
If catching fireflies feels nostalgic, imagine witnessing thousands blinking in sync like a natural light show. Thatâs what happens for one brief week each year in Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
These synchronous fireflies glow together as part of a rare mating display that only happens in a few places on Earth. To protect the experienceâand the firefliesâthe park limits entry through a $1 lottery held each spring.
This yearâs lottery runs May 2â5, with 960 vehicle passes available. Winners will pay $29 to attend the show, with proceeds supporting the park directly.
The viewing dates shift slightly each year but usually fall in early June. If you miss out, similar events happen in Congaree (SC), Allegheny (PA), and Joyce-Kilmer (NC)âeach with their own entry windows and charm.
Seeing fireflies light up the forest in unison is unforgettable. If youâre lucky enough to snag a spot, prepare to be amazed!
