A Wildlife Bridge Is Reconnecting Colorado’s Habitat
In Colorado, a new kind of bridge is helping solve a problem many drivers don’t always see. The Greenland Wildlife Overpass spans six lanes of Interstate 25, giving animals a safe way to cross a busy highway that once divided their habitat. For years, this stretch of road saw frequent wildlife-vehicle collisions, sometimes as often as one per day during peak migration.
The overpass is designed to feel like part of the landscape, covered in soil and vegetation so animals can move across it naturally. It reconnects about 39,000 acres of habitat, allowing species like elk, pronghorn, foxes, and coyotes to safely reach food, mates, and seasonal ranges. For animals that rely on migration, that connection can make a real difference in long-term survival.
Projects like this are becoming more important as roads and development continue to split natural spaces. Along with fencing and additional crossings, the overpass could reduce collisions in the area by up to 90%. It’s a reminder that infrastructure doesn’t have to come at the expense of nature. Sometimes, it can be designed to support both people and wildlife at the same time.

Small Home Changes That Lower Bills And Waste
Saving energy at home doesn’t have to mean big renovations or expensive upgrades. In many cases, small changes, like switching out a few light bulbs or adjusting daily habits, can make a noticeable difference in both your energy bills and your overall footprint.
Lighting is one of the easiest places to start. Swapping in energy-efficient bulbs can cut energy use significantly while lasting much longer. From there, simple habits like turning off electronics fully (using a power strip helps), running full loads of laundry or dishes, and washing clothes in cold water can quietly reduce energy use over time.
Temperature control is another big one. Heating and cooling make up a large portion of household energy use, so small adjustments, like closing shades during hot days or letting sunlight in during colder months, can help regulate your space naturally. Even things like clearing vents or using a low-flow showerhead add up. None of these changes need to be perfect on their own, but together, they create a home that’s a little more efficient, comfortable, and cost-conscious.

How Texas Will Become America's AI Powerhouse
140 new data centers will be built in Texas this year, 20%+ of America’s new construction this year.
Those data centers will need tons of power. Luckily, American PowerGen could soon supply it.
It’s partially why APG has already received unsolicited offers from institutional buyers on a Houston power project that could supply enough energy to power 3M homes.
Thank you to American PowerGen for sponsoring The Canopy.

Sunset of the Day in Antarctica
The Canopy reader Kathy captured this sunset from the deck of the Viking Polaris in Antarctica, where the sun dips low behind a line of icy peaks. The light stretches across the water in a soft gold reflection, contrasting with the cool tones of the surrounding ice and sea.
Thank you to Kathy for sharing this Antarctic sunset. Have a sunset or snapshot you’d love to share? We’d love to see it. Send it our way for a chance to be featured in The Canopy.
