Scroll to the bottom for the answer.

You Can Now Get Paid to Fix Clothes

France is taking a fresh approach to fashion waste by paying people to repair their clothes instead of replacing them. Through a national repair bonus program, you can now get between $6 and $28 back just for mending a tear or fixing your shoes.

The idea is simple: less waste, longer-lasting clothes, and fewer new items ending up in landfills. France throws out over 770,000 tons of clothing each year, much of it still wearable. This program gives people a reason to keep what they already have—and feel good about it.

Funded with $173 million over five years, the initiative is backed by Refashion, an organization that works with thousands of brands and tailors. Participating shops can join the program for free, making it easier for more people to access repairs.

If you're someone who’d rather patch a favorite pair of jeans than toss them, this kind of program feels like a win. It’s a small change that not only saves money, it helps shift the culture toward valuing clothes that last.

Glitter That’s Fun and Planet-Friendly

If you love a little sparkle but want to avoid plastic waste, you’re in luck. A growing number of companies now offer glitter that’s biodegradable, plastic-free, and safe for the environment.

Most eco-friendly glitters use plant-based materials like eucalyptus cellulose or natural mica instead of plastic. These materials break down over time in nature, making them a great choice for crafts, makeup, or celebrations. Some brands are even certified to break down in freshwater, which is a big win for marine life.

For those who love DIY, you can also make your own shimmer using ingredients like salt, beetroot powder, or turmeric for color. While not quite as sparkly, they’re completely natural and safe.

Switching to a more sustainable glitter might feel like a small change, but it’s one that keeps microplastics out of waterways and soil. And the good news? You can still love glitter—just in a cleaner, kinder way.

Make Lipstick With Ingredients You Already Have

If you’ve got half-used lipsticks cluttering your drawer, you’re not alone. Store-bought options often come with high prices and long ingredient lists. The good news? You can make your own lipstick at home using natural, skin-friendly ingredients.

One recipe uses beetroot powder for a soft pink tint, while another blends dried rose petals and shea butter for a bold, rich shade. Both rely on simple ingredients like coconut oil, beeswax, and cornstarch. You can even adjust the texture—add a bit more oil for a balm or more powder for a matte look.

Homemade lip color isn’t just better for your skin. It also cuts down on waste from plastic tubes and synthetic dyes. Plus, each batch costs less than $2 to make.

Whether you're looking for something fun to try or just want a cleaner option, these DIY recipes offer a simple way to take control of what goes on your lips—and into your body.

Retired and Need Extra Cash?

If you're retired and finding it tough to make ends meet on Social Security or a pension, a reverse mortgage could help take some of the pressure off. With the "tenure" payment plan, you can receive reliable monthly payments for as long as you live in your home and keep up with basic responsibilities like property taxes and insurance. It’s a way to turn your home’s value into extra income without giving up the place you love, so you can enjoy a more comfortable and secure retirement.

To qualify for a reverse mortgage, you must meet the following requirements:

  • You must be at least 62 years old.

  • You must own your home outright or have a low remaining mortgage balance that can be paid off at closing with reverse mortgage proceeds.

  • The home must be your primary residence (not a second home or rental property).

  • Eligible properties include single-family homes, FHA-approved condos, townhomes, and certain multi-unit properties (up to 4 units, as long as you live in one).

  • You must demonstrate the ability to pay property taxes, homeowners insurance, and maintenance costs.

  • You must complete a HUD-approved reverse mortgage counseling session to ensure you understand the loan terms and implications.
